The castle of Grazzano Visconti is a fortress located in the province of Piacenza in the municipality of Vigolzone.
It was built in 1395, perhaps on a pre-existing structure, by Giovanni Anguissola to reside there with his wife Beatrice Visconti, sister of Gian Galeazzo Visconti. It remained the property of the Anguissola family until the death without heirs of Count Filippo in 1870 to pass to his wife Fanny, born Visconti di Modrone, who are its current owners.
The castle
It has a quadrangular plan with towers on the four corners, two cylindrical and two square. Built in stone and brick, the alternation of the two materials is exploited in a decorative key with the alternation of bands and the use of terracotta profiles on a stone background. The buildings are three sides of the complex, the fourth is closed by a battlemented wall. The entrance was allowed by a drawbridge, of which traces remain, above the still existing ditch.
The village
In the early twentieth century Giuseppe Visconti di Modrone took care of the restoration and enlarged the annexes of the castle building a small village in neo-medieval style designed by the architect Alfredo Campanini. Probably the only ancient building beyond the castle is the small church dedicated to Sant'Anna, the family's private chapel dating back to the 17th century.
The park
Painted on wood in the village under the arcades, the large park that surrounds the manor is about 150,000 m2, and houses: the church, the study of the Duke, the belvedere overlooking the Rio Grazzano, the labyrinth, the Italian garden and several specimens of old trees. Through guided tours organized by the Noctua company, the park can now be visited for a fee at certain times of the year.
Today a tourist destination, the village hosts craft shops and refreshment points and is animated with historical re-enactments and costume parties.

Il castello di Grazzano Visconti è un fortilizio situato in provincia di Piacenza nel comune di Vigolzone.
Fu costruito nel 1395, forse su una struttura preesistente, da Giovanni Anguissola per risiedervi con la moglie Beatrice Visconti, sorella di Gian Galeazzo Visconti. Rimase proprietà della famiglia Anguissola fino alla morte senza eredi del conte Filippo nel 1870 per passare alla moglie Fanny nata Visconti di Modrone, che ne sono gli attuali proprietari.
Il castello
Ha pianta quadrangolare con torri sui quattro angoli, due cilindriche e due quadrate. Edificato in pietra e laterizio, l'alternanza dei due materiali è sfruttata in chiave decorativa con l'alternanza di fasce e l'uso di profili in cotto su fondo in pietra. Gli edifici costituiscono tre lati del complesso, il quarto è chiuso da un muraglione merlato. L'ingresso era consentito da un ponte levatoio, di cui rimangono le tracce, sopra il fossato tuttora esistente.
Il borgo
Nei primi anni del Novecento Giuseppe Visconti di Modrone curò il restauro e ampliò gli annessi del castello costruendo ex novo un piccolo villaggio in stile neo-medievale progettato dall'architetto Alfredo Campanini. Probabilmente l'unico edificio antico oltre il castello è la chiesetta dedicata a Sant'Anna, cappella privata della famiglia risalente al XVII secolo.
Il parco
Dipinto su legno nel borgo sotto i portici, il grande parco che circonda il maniero misura circa 150.000 m2, e ospita: la chiesetta, lo studio del Duca, il belvedere che si protende sul rio Grazzano, il labirinto, il giardino all'italiana e diversi esemplari di alberi secolari. Mediante visite guidate organizzate dalla società Noctua il parco è ora visitabile a pagamento in determinati periodi dell'anno.
Oggi meta turistica, il borgo ospita botteghe artigiane e punti di ristoro e viene animato con rievocazioni storiche e feste in costume.
Consigliamo una buona location per il cibo: il Ristorante del Biscione. È all'interno del villaggio e offre buon cibo a buon prezzo.
