"You are welcome, call me by name, which here, we call by name and we also call you to God. My father wanted me a shepherd and I spent my adolescence among sheep and dogs and only one book. I sculpted alabaster at night, in a stable next to the one where other shepherds rested who always shouted at me, amidst blasphemies, to go to sleep. I sculpted by the light of a torch (a piece of cloth dipped in oil) outside to breathe under the stars. One night I asked the sky to make me insatiable - never satisfied with my art - and I was listened to. Many ask me how the idea for the theater was born ... it is written that "the Spirit, like the wind, it blows where it wants "and it blew here, where at the end of the seventies, I brought sheep to feed, which strangely, as if taken by enchantment, remained to ruminate as still as stones. Then I realized that positive energy flows from this place, so in the early nineties I got up the first stones - I would not be alone anymore - At that time I knew that the Galaxy M31 of the Andromeda constellation will collide with our Galaxy in about two and a half billion years, I then thought of giving shape to a cavea with 108 stones tracing the map of the 108 stars of the Andromeda Constellation… See? It is a simple story. "
This is the incipit with which Lorenzo Reina presents his Andromeda Theater, a truly singular and unique place.
The theater was built in a panoramic area in the center of a Sicilian city, and consists of a circular stage with seats, consisting of stone blocks that reproduce in number and arrangement the stars of the constellation of Andromeda (hence the first name). The theater is enjoying great success, even being presented at the 16th edition of the International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale.
The choice of place is not accidental. At the summer solstice, the shadow of the sun projected by a disk placed behind the stage projects a circle that coincides with a circular black space on the stage. In the same way, a ray of sunlight passes through the mouth of a sculpture at sunset.
Its height means that the Andromeda theater is also defined as the highest stone theater in the world due to the fact that it is located at an altitude of about 900 meters.
But it doesn't stop there. The owner has created an artistic path around the structure with a series of sculptures granted by other artists such as the dying Icarus by Giuseppe Agnello from 2007, or the Imago della word sculpture. But like any real theater, artistic events and theatrical performances promoted by the owner artist are organized in the area.

From CATANIA: follow signs for CALTANISSETTA → AGRIGENTO / PALERMO
→ LERCARA FRIDDI exit, upon reaching the Filaga junction continue towards SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA for about 10km, then on the left you will find the Castronovo junction with indication of the Andromeda Theater.
From PALERMO: Follow the signs for PA - AG, exit and pass Lercara Friddi, upon reaching the Filaga crossroads continue towards SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA for about 10km, then on the left you will find the Castronovo crossroads with indication of the Andromeda Theater.
From AGRIGENTO: Follow signs for scrolling AG - PA,
exit and pass Lercara Friddi, upon reaching the Filaga junction continue towards SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA for about 10km, then on the left you will find the Castronovo junction with indication of the Andromeda Theater.
From SCIACCA: Follow signs for RIBERA, continuing towards CIANCIANA. Pass the villages of ALESSANDRIA DELLA ROCCA, BIVONA and SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA. Continue towards PALERMO and after about 4 km take the crossroads on the right for Castronovo di Sicilia with indication of the Andromeda Theater.
From MESSINA: Follow the A20 / E90 towards TERMINI IMERESE, exit and follow signs for CACCAMO, and continue for ROCCAPALUMBA and LERCARA FRIDDI. When you reach the Filaga crossroads continue towards SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA for about 10km, then on the left you will find the Castronovo crossroads with indication of the Andromeda Theater.
From TRAPANI: Follow directions for ALCAMO, continue on the E90 towards VILLABATE and enter the PA - AG. Exit and pass Lercara Friddi, upon reaching the Filaga crossroads continue towards SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA for about 10km, then on the left you will find the Castronovo crossroads with indication of the Andromeda Theater.
From SIRACUSA: Follow the signs for SS114 and then E45 towards CATANIA. Take the A19 towards PALERMO, exit at the junction for CALTANISSETTA and continue towards AG - PA. Exit at LERCARA FRIDDI, upon reaching the Filaga junction continue towards SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA for about 10km, then on the left you will find the Castronovo junction with indication of the Andromeda Theater.
From ENNA: Take the A19 towards PALERMO, exit at the junction for CALTANISSETTA and continue towards AG - PA. Exit at LERCARA FRIDDI, upon reaching the Filaga junction continue towards SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA for about 10km, then on the left you will find the Castronovo junction with indication of the Andromeda Theater.
From RAGUSA: Take the SS115 towards GELA and continue for AGRIGENTO. Follow directions for scrolling AG - PA,
exit and pass Lercara Friddi, upon reaching the Filaga junction continue towards SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA for about 10km, then on the left you will find the Castronovo junction with indication of the Andromeda Theater.

"Sei il benvenuto, chiamami per nome, che qui, chiamiamo per nome e diamo del tu anche a Dio. Mio padre mi voleva pastore e ho passato la mia adolescenza tra pecore e cani e un solo libro. Scolpivo alabastri di notte,in una stalla accanto a quella dove riposavano altri pastori che sempre mi urlarono,tra le bestemmie, di andare a dormire . Scolpivo al lume di una fiaccola (un pezzo di stoffa immersa nella nafta ) e quando le mie narici si riempivano di polvere e di fumo uscivo fuori a respirare sotto le stelle . Una notte chiesi al cielo di farmi incontentabile – mai sazio della mia arte – e sono stato ascoltato. In tanti mi chiedete come è nata l’idea per il teatro … è scritto che “ lo Spirito, come il vento, soffia dove vuole” e ha soffiato qui,dove alla fine degli anni settanta, portavo a pascere le pecore, che stranamente,come prese da incantamento, restavano a ruminare ferme come sassi. Allora ho intuito che da questo luogo fluisce energia positiva,così nei primi anni novanta alzai le prime pietre -non sarei stato più solo – In quel tempo ho saputo che la Galassia M31 della Costellazione di Andromeda entrerà in collisione con la nostra Galassia tra circa due miliardi e mezzo di anni , pensai allora di dare forma a una cavea con 108 pietre ricalcando la mappa delle 108 stelle della Costellazione di Andromeda … Vedi ? E’ una storia semplice."
Questo è l'incipit con cui Lorenzo Reina presenta il suo Teatro Andromeda, un posto davvero singolare e unico.
Il teatro è stato realizzato in una zona panoramica al centro di una città siciliana, ed è formato da un palco circolare con dei posti a sedere, costituiti da blocchi di pietra che riproducono in numero e disposizione le stelle della costellazione di Andromeda (da cui il nome). Il teatro sta riscuotendo un grande successo, venendo presentato persino alla XVI edizione della Mostra internazionale di architettura della Biennale di Venezia.
La scelta del posto non è casuale. In corrispondenza del solstizio d’estate l’ombra del sole proiettata da un disco posto alle spalle del palco proietta un cerchio che coincide con uno spazio nero circolare sul palco. Allo stesso modo dalla bocca di una scultura al tramonto passa un raggio di sole.
La sua altezza fa si che il teatro Andromeda venga anche definito il teatro in pietra più alto al mondo per il fatto di trovarsi circa a quota 900 metri.
Ma non finisce qui. Attorno alla struttura il proprietario ha creato un percorso artistico con una serie di sculture concesse da altri artisti come Icaro morente di Giuseppe Agnello del 2007, oppure la scultura Imago della parola. Ma come ogni vero teatro, nell'area vengono organizzati eventi artistici e rappresentazioni teatrali promosse dall'artista proprietario.

Da AGRIGENTO: Seguire indicazioni per lo scorrimento AG – PA,
uscire e superare Lercara Friddi, giunti al bivio di Filaga continuare per SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA per circa 10km, successivamente sulla sinistra troverete il bivio di Castronovo con indicazione Teatro Andromeda.
Da SCIACCA: Seguire indicazioni per RIBERA, proseguendo in direzione CIANCIANA. Superare i paesi di ALESSANDRIA DELLA ROCCA, BIVONA E SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA. Proseguire per PALERMO e dopo circa 4 km imboccare il bivio sulla destra per Castronovo di Sicilia con indicazione Teatro Andromeda.
Da MESSINA: Seguire la A20/E90 in direzione TERMINI IMERESE uscire e seguire indicazioni per CACCAMO, e proseguire per ROCCAPALUMBA e LERCARA FRIDDI. Giunti al bivio di Filaga continuare per SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA per circa 10km, successivamente sulla sinistra troverete il bivio di Castronovo con indicazione Teatro Andromeda.
Da TRAPANI: Seguire indicazioni per ALCAMO, proseguire sulla E90 in direzione VILLABATE ed entrare sulla PA – AG. Uscire e superare Lercara Friddi, giunti al bivio di Filaga continuare per SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA per circa 10km, successivamente sulla sinistra troverete il bivio di Castronovo con indicazione Teatro Andromeda.
Da SIRACUSA: Seguire le indicazioni per SS114 e successivamente E45 in direzione CATANIA. Prendi la A19 in direzione PALERMO, esci allo svincolo per CALTANISSETTA e prosegui in direzione AG – PA. Esci a LERCARA FRIDDI, giunti al bivio di Filaga continuare per SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA per circa 10km, successivamente sulla sinistra troverete il bivio di Castronovo con indicazione Teatro Andromeda.
Da ENNA: Prendi la A19 in direzione PALERMO, esci allo svincolo per CALTANISSETTA e prosegui in direzione AG – PA. Esci a LERCARA FRIDDI, giunti al bivio di Filaga continuare per SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA per circa 10km, successivamente sulla sinistra troverete il bivio di Castronovo con indicazione Teatro Andromeda.
Da RAGUSA: Prendi la SS115 in direzione GELA e prosegui per AGRIGENTO. Segui indicazioni per lo scorrimento AG – PA,
uscire e superare Lercara Friddi, giunti al bivio di Filaga continuare per SANTO STEFANO QUISQUINA per circa 10km, successivamente sulla sinistra troverete il bivio di Castronovo con indicazione Teatro Andromeda.
