The structure, housed in a former convent complex, is located 2 km from the town of Vicovaro (the ancient Varia) and 30 km east of Rome, on the cliff or "greppo" of San Cosimato.
The complex occupies a vast area surrounded by walls; the quadrangular central body, born on remains of the Roman age which in turn would seem to insist on previous works, is characterized by the cloister, in the center of which there is a well, symbol, together with the cypresses, of the Franciscan Oasis.
The whole structure revolves around the cloister: on this floor, which corresponds to the ground floor, the reception has been placed with a large reception area for guests, a conference room with about 40 seats, equipped with multimedia tools, a 25-seat dining room and a 100-seat dining room, obtained in the ancient Franciscan refectory where a Rosati canvas depicting the Last Supper is clearly visible.
Housed in the former Franciscan refectory, the restaurant offers different solutions for every type of event. Guests are offered regional cuisine, enriched with typical local products, paying close attention to the "short chain". In the kitchen, the balance of products and recipes revisited by our chef determines our style.
The ANCIENT CISTERNA, the wine shop housed in the subsoil of the Convent, takes its name from the Roman cistern which was a source of water supply and still visible today inside the wine shop, which has become an elegant loft, unique in its kind.
The wine shop offers its customers a truly suggestive environment in which stone is harmonized with its history, wood and its warmth and crystal, with its purity and essentiality.
The wine shop offers the tasting of many white and red wines of the national territory, in fact there are over 130 labels on the wine list!
At the Franciscan Oasis you can book guided tours of the caves and hermitages where monks extracted themselves from the world and prayed.
Here San Benedetto lived a few years before moving permanently to Subiaco.
You can also visit the Roman aqueducts of the Acqua Claudia and Acqua Marcia, with a visit on the Aniene river where the Convent is overhanging.

To get that, take the A24 from Rome to L'aquila, or otherwise. Than take the exit "Vicovaro", than take the Strada Statale 5, on your right, and go straight to the number 47.

Oggi vogliamo proporvi un viaggio tra fede e antica Roma: l'Oasi Francescana di Vicovaro.
La struttura, ospitata in un ex complesso conventuale, sorge a 2 km dalla cittadina di Vicovaro (l’antica Varia) e a 30 km ad est di Roma, sulla rupe o “greppo” di San Cosimato.
Il complesso occupa una vasta superficie, cinta da muri; il corpo centrale quadrangolare, nato su resti di età romana che a loro volta parrebbero insistere su opere precedenti, è caratterizzato dal chiostro, al cui centro trova posto un pozzo, simbolo, insieme ai cipressi, dell’Oasi francescana.
Tutta la struttura ruota intorno al chiostro: su questo piano, che corrisponde al pian terreno, hanno trovato collocazione la reception con annessa un’ampia area di accoglienza degli ospiti, una sala congressuale di circa 40 posti a sedere, equipaggiata di strumenti multimediali, una sala da pranzo da 25 posti ed una sala da pranzo da circa 100 posti, ricavata nell’antico refettorio francescano ove è ben visibile una tela del Rosati raffigurante l’ultima cena.
Ricavato nell’ex refettorio francescano, il ristorante offre diverse soluzioni per ogni tipo di evento. Agli ospiti, vengono offerti piatti della cucina regionale, arricchiti da prodotti tipici locali, ponendo molta attenzione alla “filiera corta”. In cucina, l’equilibrio dei prodotti e delle ricette rivisitate dal nostro chef, determina il nostro stile.
L’ANTICA CISTERNA, l’enoteca ospitata nel sottosuolo del Convento, trae il suo nome dalla cisterna romana che era fonte di approvvigionamento dell’acqua ed oggi ancora visibile all’interno dell’enoteca, diventata un elegante loft, unico nel suo genere.
L’enoteca offre ai propri clienti un ambiente davvero suggestivo nel quale si armonizza la pietra con la sua storia, il legno ed il suo calore ed il cristallo, con la sua purezza ed essenzialità.
L’enoteca propone la degustazione di numerosi vini bianchi e rossi del territorio nazionale, sono infatti oltre 130 le etichette presenti nella carta dei vini!
All’Oasi francescana potrete prenotare visite guidate per le grotte e gli eremi nei quali i monaci si estraevano dal mondo e pregavano.
Qui San Benedetto visse alcuni anni prima di trasferirsi definitivamente a Subiaco.
Potrete inoltre visitare gli acquedotti romani dell’Acqua Claudia e dell’Acqua Marcia, con visita sul fiume Aniene dove il Convento è posto a strapiombo.
